About Margaret Jane Nakamatsu

Margaret Jane Nakamatsu (Janie) is a lawyer whose practice has since 1999 emphasized estate administration, probate, conservatorships and guardianships, and elder law. Janie was raised in Texas. In 1979 she graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, cum laude, with a bachelor's degree in History and Political Science, and from the University of Texas, School of Law, with a Juris Doctor.

Janie has lived in Hawaii since 1979. In 1980 she began working at American Savings Bank as a Staff Attorney. She later served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Compliance Office and Secretary of the Board of Directors. She has been a guest lecturer for the Hawaii State Bar Association Nuts and Bolts Series, the National Business Institute on probate administration, and the Special Olympics on Guardianships and Conservatorships.

Janie served as an elected member of the Hawaii State Board of Education from 1980-1984 representing the Island of Oahu. She has been a member of the American Womens' Business Association, BNI International, and the Board of Directors of the Christian Legal Society. She is the Assistant Pastor of her church, and hosts a weekly television program entitled 'Something Beautiful from the Word of God.
